Car Paint Correction in St. George, UT

It's In The Details St. George

Erase Swirls, Scratches, and Defects for a Mirror-Like Finish

Have you ever looked at your car under direct sunlight or a gas station light and noticed a web of fine scratches, "holograms," or a dull, hazy finish? These are defects in your clear coat, usually caused by automatic car washes and improper drying techniques. No amount of wax will fix them—they need to be safely removed.

Paint Correction (also known as buffing or polishing) is the art of leveling the clear coat to permanently remove these imperfections, revealing the deep, glossy color underneath.

The Transformation Process

This is not a quick "buff and wax." It is a meticulous, multi-step process that requires patience and precision.

  • Decontamination Prep: Before we polish, the paint must be surgically clean. We strip old waxes and use clay bars to remove embedded grit that a normal wash misses.
  • Paint Analysis: We measure your paint depth and inspect the condition of the clear coat to determine the safest and most effective combination of pads and compounds.
  • The "Cut" (Defect Removal): Using machine polishers, we gently level the clear coat to abrasion-free flatness. This removes swirl marks, water spots, etching, and light-to-medium scratches.
  • The "Finish" (Jeweling): We follow up with a fine polish and a soft pad to refine the surface, maximizing clarity and creating a deep, wet gloss that looks like a mirror.
  • Oil Removal: We wipe the vehicle down with an isopropyl alcohol solution to ensure no polishing oils are hiding defects. What you see is the true finish.
  • Note on Scratches: We operate by the rule of "preservation." If a scratch is deep enough that your fingernail catches in it, it may be too deep to safely remove completely. We will improve it as much as possible without compromising the integrity of your paint.

Choose Your Level of Perfection

  • 1-Step correction: A 1-step correction is perfect for you if your car has light scratches and swirls that you want to get rid of. Typically a 1 step involves prepping the paint with a decontamination and clay bar phase and then using a compound and a pad on a polishing machine to remove minor defects. For the majority of cases about 50% of defects can be removed through a 1 step process.
  • 2-Step correction: This is our most common paint correction package. If your car has moderate-severe paint defects this buff and polish combo will help to improve your paints clarity up to 70%+. Your car will be prepped in full including decontamination and clay bar to remove contaminants and then a buff and polish process will remove the vast majority of swirls and markings.
  • 3-Step Correction: A 3-step correction is for vehicles that are beyond moderate imperfections and need some more serious work. A 3 step correction process is aimed at vehicles looking to remove 85%+ of imperfections. It includes a full prep, decontamination, and clay phase followed by either wet sanding or 2 separate buffing passes, finished off with a polish. These jobs vary in cost and time vehicle to vehicle. If the vehicle needs more than 3 steps to obtain the desired clarity a unique step by step process can be made to ensure your vehicle gets the exact care it needs.

Why Invest in Paint Correction?

  • Permanent Results: Unlike "glazes" that fill scratches temporarily, we remove them for good.
  • Better Than Factory: Many cars leave the dealership with sanding marks and haze. We make it look better than the day you bought it.
  • Pre-Ceramic Necessity: If you plan on getting a Ceramic Coating, correction is crucial. You never want to lock in scratches under a semi-permanent coating.

"If I could give more stars, I would! Tavin and his team did an absolutely outstanding job on my car. I had some tough, sticky residue left behind from dent-and-scratch protectors above my windshield, and they made it look completely brand new. Now my car is sparkling clean and smells wonderfully fresh inside and out. I can’t recommend It’s In The Details enough!"

"Tavin and his team are absolutely incredible! My husband and I are in the process of selling our car, and we knew it needed more than just a quick wash. We reached out to Tavin for a full detail—and wow, he did not disappoint! I honestly didn’t think the interior could return to its original beautiful beige, but Tavin worked his magic and made the car look showroom-new. The attention to detail, professionalism, and care were beyond impressive..."

"I had Tavin at “It’s in the details” detailing shop here in St. George UTAH, come shine my FOGGY headlights up on my 4Runner, he was one of the nicest, most professional & customer centric person I have ever met! (I’m in sales, so that is saying something!). He showed up on time, he explained everything to me & then said as long as there was no moisture or fogging inside my headlights, he would do his best to make them look brand new! He was probably here at my home for 2 hours or more & he made them look brand new! He was so good that I trusted him to come back the next day & detail my Wife’s Tesla (it’s a belated Mother’s Day gift to my wife)..."

"Tavin and his partner arrived at 10:20. They came to my home to clear my clouded headlights. They worked continuously for 2 hours. I was impressed with what they had done. My headlights look like new. Compared to what a new set of headlights would have cost, I am more than happy with the cost of having this done. Thank you!!"
